We’re supposed to “Pray For Obama”… to die? Wow, that’s not What Jesus Would Do.

Wow, I just ran across this post in my email, and some of the facts in it astound me: http://newsjunkiepost.com/2009/12/27/conservative-christian-extremists-target-obama

Here are a few quotes from the article:

The conservative Christians fear and hate of Barack Hussein Obama has been apparent for over a year. During the presidential campaign, these irrational fears came into focus. Focus on the Family Action wrote the fear mongering “Letter from 2012 in Obama’s America” in which there was gay marriage in every state, Israel was nuked, and 4 US population centers were hit by terrorist strikes, all due to the election of Obama. A Pentacostal publication wrote that “Life As We Know It Will End If Obama is Elected.” The Christian ‘Anti-Defamation’ Commission put up videos called “7 Reasons Barack Obama is not a Christian.”

This fear mongering has intensified over the last year. There was a poll on Facebook asking whether Obama should be killed. A rogue militia ordered Obama to leave the country or face the ‘consequences’. A right wing blog with ties to Christian conservatives advocated a Honduran style military coup. Merchandise began to be sold saying: Pray for Obama: Psalm 109:8. This passage reads: “Let his days be few; and let another take his office. Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.”

How can Christians stand back and let this happen? People, masquerading as Christians, peddling their wares of hate, murder, and sin?

How can we, as true Christians, fight back against these types of people? How can we spread Christ’s message, and overshadow the hate?

  • Jason. I'm not a Christian, but I know enough about the religion to know you are totally right. I believe there was a set of stone tablets that laid that out pretty directly. Plus, as a human being, I find it hard to understand these sowers of hate.
  • Yes, those tablets did lay it out pretty directly. Then in the New Testament, Jesus actually boiled all of the commandments of the Old Testament down into 2: love the Lord your God, and love your neighbor as yourself (Luke 10:25-37)
